IRS Form W-9 Request for Subcontractors

Before paying an independent contractor, an electrical contracting business must have the worker complete IRS Form W-9 to provide their correct name and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). The business should keep this form on file for four years. Having a valid W-9 prevents the business from being required to deduct backup withholding from the subcontractor's payments.
