After being tased,  Blake removed the taser prongs and picked up a pocket knife he had dropped. Blake walked to the driver's door of the vehicle to put away the knife and check on his children. Officer Rusten Sheskey grabbed the back of Blake's shirt and shot Blake seven times in the back in front of Blake's two children.

Blake had previously been beaten by police as a teenager and resisted the police beating on August 30th, as he later explained, because he did not want to die, especially after the recent death of George Floyd.

Jacob Blake had an outstanding warrant. When police arrived the officers attempted to arrest Blake without an explanation or reading of his Miranda rights. Officers grabbed Blake and tasered him twice as a crowd of nearly 20 people formed and started telling the officers they had the wrong person.
