In this poem from Haft Awrang, Jami distinguishes between the common biological definition of a human (bipedal, flat-nailed, and hairless) and the spiritual reality of the Perfect Human (Insan-i Kamil). He argues that those who only possess physical human traits but lack spiritual development are merely 'animalistic humans' (anasi-ye hayvani), to whom the Quranic description 'they are like cattle, nay, they are even more astray' (ula'ika kal-an'am bal hum adall) applies. Furthermore, Jami criticizes superficial Sufi pretenders (sheikh-e khod-bin) who mistake outward ascetic rituals and having followers for true human perfection.
