In Section 37 of Subhat al-Abrar (part of the Haft Awrang), Jami provides a mystical interpretation of the prophetic Hadith stating that the world is cursed. Jami defines a divine curse (la'n) not as an arbitrary external condemnation, but as the spiritual state of being banished from divine proximity (qurb). He explains that anyone who is separated from their ultimate spiritual purpose (maqsud) even for a single moment is considered cursed and rejected (matrud) during that time. Closeness is defined as divine awareness, whereas distance (bu'd) is spiritual heedlessness and deviation.
