Juan Camilo Cárdenas

Juan Camilo Cárdenas is an economist at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, known for his pioneering work in conducting field experiments on social dilemmas. Since 1998, he has studied cooperation by engaging with real-world communities managing shared resources. As featured in an 'Economist in Action' video, his experiments help explain why people cooperate despite incentives to do otherwise. He has also collaborated on large-scale, cross-cultural research, such as a 2006 study with Joseph Henrich and others on costly punishment across different societies.
