Concept
Justice as the Measure of Legitimate Kingship in Jami's Praise of the Persian Kings
Jami presents justice and truthfulness as the qualities by which rulers deserve lasting praise. Although the ancient Persian kings followed a religion he rejects, their just governance kept the realm prosperous, protected subjects from oppression, and brought social repose. The passage therefore evaluates kingship primarily through its ethical consequences for the governed.
