Short Answer

Justifying Model Simplification in Economics

An economic model is created to study the problem of overfishing in a large, shared international ocean. The model, however, only includes two fishing companies that must decide their catch levels independently, without communication. A critic claims the model is useless because it ignores the hundreds of other companies involved. In two to three sentences, argue why the model's simplification is a deliberate and useful tool for understanding the larger problem.
