Khosrow's Resolution to Search the Sea and the Tension Between Love and Intellect in Section 51 of the Khosrow Nameh

In Section 51 of the Khosrow Nameh, Farid al-Din Attar highlights the thematic conflict between passionate love ('ishq) and rational intellect ('aql). Upon the disappearance of Gol, Khosrow expresses an absolute resolve to search for her across deserts and seas, declaring his willingness to perish or wander endlessly. His father responds by admonishing his passion, warning that anyone guided by intellect would deem Khosrow's quest as madness (divanegi). This interaction illustrates a central Sufi trope: the transformative, all-consuming nature of love that transcends and defies conventional rationality, where the lover willingly embraces the label of madness in pursuit of the beloved.
