Late-Stage Collection Steps for Overdue Electrical Invoices

When a customer is about 60 days past due, the contractor should issue a formal demand letter and check whether a mechanics lien may be available for the project. Because lien rules, notice requirements, and filing deadlines depend on the state where the work was performed, a construction attorney familiar with that state should review the matter before any filing is made.

If the balance is still unpaid at 90 days or later, the contractor may consider sending the account to a collections agency or pursuing legal action.

At every stage, the contractor should stay truthful and professional. Harassment, threats, and false statements about the debt are not acceptable.
