Long-Term Convertibility of Legacy Eurozone Currencies

After the euro was introduced, the original fixed conversion rates remained relevant for an extended period. National central banks continued to honor the old currencies; for instance, the Bank of Spain exchanged peseta banknotes for euros until 2021, and Germany's Bundesbank continues to exchange Deutsche Marks indefinitely as of 2024. This practice ensured that old physical currency retained its value based on the original conversion terms.
