Generally speaking, depression is an overall feeling of sadness. More specifically, those with depression tend to experience several things such as: an increase or decrease in weight, troubles with concentration, feelings of meaninglessness or worthlessness, thoughts of death or suicide, and so on. 

Depression

Generally speaking, anxiety is a reaction by the body that ensues negative internal experiences such as negative thoughts or feelings. Physical changes may also follow, such as an increase in blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, trembling, and so on.

Anxiety

A disorder that results from experiencing or witnessing something that makes one feel afraid, terrified, or powerless and makes them think that their life, bodily integrity, or safety are in danger. It manifests as painful and intrusive memories of the stressful event, jitteriness, ongoing negative emotional states, social distancing, violent outbursts, and avoiding reminders of the incident.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Survivors of childhood sexual abuse report symptomatology related to: 
- Low self esteem 
- Depression 
- Dissociation 
- Anxiety 
- Post-traumatic stress disorder

This study, "The efficacy of group treatment for survivors of childhood abuse," examined change in relation to a feminist model for group therapy. The focus of the group was for each individual to “tell their story” in a safe and supportive environment. The group is led by two co-therapists, with six-eight individuals. Each group meets for two and half hours weekly for 10 to 12 weeks. Individual therapy was allowed concurrently as needed.

Group Treatment for Childhood Sexual Abuse 

The women reported consistent improvements in a reduction of their trauma symptoms. Participation in the treatment group resulted in decreased depression and anxiety, and improvements in self-esteem. Change in a positive direction for trauma symptomatology was also reported.
