Longitudinal Study on Depression and Fatal Heart Disease in Nurses (Whang et al., 2009)

A large-scale, 12-year study of over 63,000 registered nurses found a significant association between depressive symptoms and death from heart disease. The results showed that nurses who reported more symptoms of depression at the start of the study had a 49% higher likelihood of experiencing fatal heart disease over the follow-up period.
