Madness versus Reason and Assimilation in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 42, Poem 8)
In Poem 8 of Chapter 42 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the speaker describes the overwhelming experience of divine love by contrasting it with human intellect. The lover steps outside the 'circle of reason' to embrace 'madness'. The second half of the quatrain illustrates a profound spiritual assimilation: the Beloved has entered the lover's heart and blood, becoming their essential life force and leaving the lover to wander, entirely consumed by this divine presence.
