In this section of Attar's Mosibat Nameh, Majnun's refusal to physically seek out Layla serves as an allegory for prioritizing pure spiritual remembrance (dhikr) over worldly union. Majnun argues that physical pursuit is tainted by selfish desire and lust, whereas the true core of love is remembrance. Attar uses this narrative to illustrate a fundamental Sufi doctrine: as long as the heart holds onto the memory of 'the other,' divine remembrance remains veiled. However, when a seeker's remembrance becomes entirely focused on the Divine (the Lord), all of existence becomes a reflection of the Beloved, just as everything became Layla for Majnun. This marks the necessary transition from metaphoric, worldly love to true divine love.
