Mamun's Warning Against Greed and Exploitation in Silsilat al-Dhahab

In Section 14 of Jami's Silsilat al-Dhahab (part of the Haft Awrang), Caliph Mamun advises his son on the moral responsibilities of leadership and the perils of worldly greed. He warns that a ruler driven by the 'evil-commanding self' (nafs) will never be satisfied with wealth, especially when it is extorted from vulnerable members of society, such as widows and orphans. The passage underscores the spiritual dangers of exploiting power for material gain and the importance of justice and restraint in governance.
