Matthew effect-perceptions of gifted vs nongifted students

Teachers were told that some students (that were randomly assigned) were gifted. These "gifted" children showed significantly more progress than the rest of the children in the class. This effect might be due to the fact that more is expected of smart children: higher expectations lead to higher performance, Pygmalion Effect.
