Max Wertheimer

Max Wertheimer was a pioneering psychologist who published a paper demonstrating that individuals perceived motion in rapidly flickering static images. This insight, which came to him while using a child's toy tachistoscope, led him to conclude that perception involves more than simply combining sensory stimuli. Along with his assistants Wolfgang Köhler and Kurt Koffka, Wertheimer founded the psychological movement known as Gestalt psychology.
