Mechanism of Stress-Induced Cellular Aging: Telomere Shortening
Stress can accelerate aging at a cellular level by shortening telomeres, which are the protective segments of DNA located at the ends of chromosomes. When telomeres become too short, they can inhibit or block cell division, including the growth and proliferation of new cells, which ultimately leads to more rapid aging.
