Mediator Variable

A mediator is a variable that functions as the mechanism by way of transferring a causal effect from one variable to another. Consider the chain junction, where A rightarrow B rightarrow C. BB is the mediator that transfers the effect of AA to CC. In other words, the mediator, BB, is the variable that explains the causal effect of AA on CC. AA can be an indirect cause of CC, meaning that AA affects BB, which in turn contributes to the change in CC.
