Mentors are great tools in assisting individuals with Level 1 ASD in adjusting to the new roles and social situations that the workforce may present. They can provide modeling behavior for mentees, and should be individuals with much patience, compassion, and understanding.

Mentors as Vital Resources for Individuals with Level 1 ASD

In order to make the transition into the workforce as smooth as possible for students, college counselors may collaborate with vocational rehabilitation agencies. This partnership is meant to ensure that the student with Level 1 ASD is properly prepared to enter a new work environment, and that employers are ready to take on the new employee. Additionally, students will become more comfortable advocating for themselves in the workforce through working with this duo.
