In Chapter 4, Poem 4 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the poet explores the mystical relationship between the One and the Many, as well as the macrocosm and the microcosm. The poem emphasizes that the singular Divine Reality ('One face') must be witnessed through the multiplicity of creation ('a hundred faces'). Furthermore, it illustrates the Sufi concept that the entirety of existence—traditionally referred to as the 'eighteen thousand worlds'—is contained and can be spiritually observed within the smallest of entities, symbolized here by the tip of a single hair.
