Mitigating Social Loafing through Evaluation

Research indicates that social loafing can be alleviated by introducing personal accountability. This reduction in individual effort is least likely to occur when group members know their specific contributions will be assessed by an authority figure, such as a manager in a workplace or an instructor in a classroom setting, or when they are required to complete self-evaluations.
