The modification phase moves from simply adding external supports to modifying academic content and tasks to maximize a students academic success amidst writing challenges. Examples of educational modifications include minimizing written assignments, focusing on assessing just one aspect of a students writing, such as content or spelling, and dividing large assignments or tasks into smaller chunks.

Examples of these interventions include exercises such as tracing, designed to improve hand-eye coordination as well as motor strength. Interventions also pair motor exercises with attentional modifications and teaching the student how to think about the process of writing.
