Remediation of dysgraphia includes individualized interventions to target the specific writing challenges faced by the student. Examples of these interventions include exercises such as tracing, designed to improve hand-eye coordination as well as motor strength. Interventions also pair motor exercises with attentional modifications and teaching the student how to think about the process of writing.

Remediation

The modification phase moves from simply adding external supports to modifying academic content and tasks to maximize a students academic success amidst writing challenges. Examples of educational modifications include minimizing written assignments, focusing on assessing just one aspect of a students writing, such as content or spelling, and dividing large assignments or tasks into smaller chunks.

Meta-analyses reveal that in children diagnosed with ADHD, stimulant medication produced significant benefits to students writing abilities and performance.

Academic accommodations are essential for students with dysgraphia to achieve success. These supports can involve altering how students are evaluated, providing them with alternative ways to demonstrate their knowledge. Other accommodations may include assistive tools like pencil grips or procedural adjustments like extended time on assignments.
