Bipedalism is defined as walking on two feet and one of the features to evolve and define humans as a member of the genus Homo. Humans, and their ancestors, are the only mammals to have evolved to be fully bipedal.

Hominins are classified as modern-day humans and human ancestors. Hominini includes the genera Homo (humans) and Pan (chimpanzees and bonobos) and usually excludes the genus Gorilla (gorillas).

The term Hominin is usually used in reference to Homo Sapiens and extinct bipedal ancestors. In comparison, Hominid is used for all modern and extinct great apes, including humans, chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans. However, this classification varies based on different perspectives in classification and will doubtlessly be changed.
