Morphological Features Associated with Hominins

The term Hominin is usually used in reference to Homo Sapiens and extinct bipedal ancestors. In comparison, Hominid is used for all modern and extinct great apes, including humans, chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans. However, this classification varies based on different perspectives in classification and will doubtlessly be changed.

Genera in Hominin

Hominins are classified as modern-day humans and human ancestors. Hominini includes the genera Homo (humans) and Pan (chimpanzees and bonobos) and usually excludes the genus Gorilla (gorillas).

The focus of this subdiscipline is to understand the early development of modern humans, or hominization, through the reconstruction of evolutionary kinship within the family Hominidae. Anthropologists study biological evidence, including skeletal remains, bone fragments, and footprints. They also study cultural evidence, for instance, stone tools, artifacts, and settlements. 

Paleoanthropology

Group of individuals that were/are able to reproduce to produce offspring. The second part of the name is used to classify an organism in the classification system made by Carolus Linnaeus.
