Moses's Absolute Submission to Divine Command in the Masnavi
In Book Three of Rumi's Masnavi (Section 41), Moses responds to Pharaoh's request for a forty-day respite by emphasizing his complete lack of independent agency. Moses declares that he is merely a servant to God's command (bandeh-ye farman) and cannot grant delays or make promises on his own authority. This passage highlights the fundamental Sufi concept of absolute surrender to the Divine Will. It conceptually contrasts Moses's spiritual submission and recognition of his own limitations with Pharaoh's worldly arrogance and illusion of control (demonstrated in the preceding sections).
