Naming a Whole Number in Words

To express a whole number in words, read the number in each period from left to right, followed by the period name in singular form (without an 's' at the end). Commas in the word form correspond to the commas separating periods in the written number. The ones period is never named explicitly. For example, 74{,}218{,}369 is written as "seventy-four million, two hundred eighteen thousand, three hundred sixty-nine."
