Naming a Whole Number in Words
To express a whole number in words, read the digits in each period from left to right, state the value of those digits, and then follow with the period name. Commas in the written number correspond to commas in the word form. The ones period is never named explicitly. For example, is written as "seventy-four million, two hundred eighteen thousand, three hundred sixty-nine."
