Alters the impact of emotion by changing the way a situation is perceived or analyzing emotional stimuli to a conflict. 

Cognitive Reappraisal

Inhibiting emotional stimuli to conflict or stressors. For example, controlling facial expressions, gestures, word choices, etc.

Suppression

People who instinctively use cognitive reappraisal have higher subjective well-being while individuals who use emotional suppression to deal with situations experience more depressive symptoms, lower interpersonal functioning, and more negative behavior. People who used the former also have enhanced control over their emotions.
