Neural Pathways of Fear Processing

According to Joseph LeDoux's research, the brain processes a fear stimulus via two distinct routes. The first is a rapid, direct path from the thalamus to the amygdala, enabling a quick, instinctual reaction. The second is a slower path that travels from the thalamus through the cortex before reaching the amygdala, allowing for more detailed cognitive processing of the stimulus.
