Neuropsychologists work hand in hand with physicians to understand the patient on an individual basis. Each patient has a different genetic makeup. Neuropsychologists create a treatment plan based on that individual's genetic makeup due to its influence on cognitive functions.   

Neuropsychologists have been interested in researching the cognitive involvement in brain tumors. The increase of the understanding led to the ability of performing awake surgeries.
