Consequences of Imbalance Between Id, Ego, and Superego

According to Freud, a failure to maintain a proper balance between the id, ego, and superego can result in psychological distress. Such imbalances are believed to be the root of various issues, including neurosis (a tendency to experience negative emotions), anxiety disorders, and other maladaptive behaviors.
