Dominant Superego

In Freud's model of personality, an individual with a dominant superego may be excessively controlled by feelings of guilt and deny themselves socially acceptable pleasures. Furthermore, an overly dominant superego can manifest as an over-controlled person who is detached from their emotional needs, or as a neurotic person who overuses ego defense mechanisms.
