Erevelles critiques a Disability Pride Approach by contending that a purely pride-based approach to disability ignores how disability is inextricably tied to violent social/economic conditions under capitalism for so many disabled people, especially low-income people and people of color. A disability pride only approach would erase disability from activist approaches to resisting violence and would avoid rather than solve the problem of disability being used as a symbol of oppression.
