Optic Chiasm
The optic chiasm is an X-shaped structure located just below the cerebral cortex where the optic nerves from both eyes merge. At this junction, visual information is sorted and rerouted. Specifically, signals from the right visual field of both eyes are directed to the left hemisphere of the brain, while signals from the left visual field are sent to the right hemisphere.
