Optimality on the Feasibility Frontier

A firm's feasible set consists of all price and quantity combinations on or below the market demand curve. Explain, in detail, why a firm seeking to maximize its profit will always choose a combination that lies directly on the demand curve rather than a combination that is below the demand curve.
