- Got Altmetric data of these documents from the PLoS ONE Metrics page, including the number of views and downloads in PLoS and PubMed Central and the number of times bookmarked in Mendeley
- Altmetric.com for number of times articles were referenced in other sources, including tweets, blog articles, new outlets, Wikipedia pages, and peer review sites
- Proceeded with 209 retracted publications and a control group of 418 contemporary, non-retracted publications
