There were 3142 counties included in this analysis. Out of 3142, 677 counties were disproportionally black. Ninety-seven percent of these disproportionally black counties reported at least one case of COVID-19. Ninety-one percent of these counties are located in the Southern United States. As of April 13th, 2020, there were 283,750 diagnoses and 12,748 deaths in these counties. Therefore, it was determined that 52% of COVID-19 cases and 58% of COVID-19 deaths occurred in these disproportionally black counties.

Data on COVID-19 in U.S. counties (both cases and deaths) were used in an attempt to illustrate racial disparities in COVID-19 disease.

As of May 6, 2020, preliminary case data and estimates of mortality in the United States shows distribution differences by race/ethnicity. 
In Chicago, IL, rates of COVID-19 cases were greatest among Latino individuals, with 1000 cases per 100000 people. 
For African American/Black individuals, there were 925 COVID-19 cases per 100000 individuals.
For those with "other" races (not Latino, Black, or White) there were 865 COVID-19 cases per 1000000 individuals.
For White individuals, there were 389 COVID-19 cases per 100000 individuals.

African American/black individuals had a much higher mortality rate (73 COVID-19 cases per 100 000 individuals) compared to Latino individuals (36 COVID-19 cases per 100000 individuals) and White individuals (22 COVID-19 cases per 100000 individuals).

COVID-19 Mortality Differences by Race, United States

As of May 7, 2020 in New York City, NY,  there was greater age-adjusted COVID-19 mortality rates of Latino individuals (187 per 100 000) and African American individuals (184 per 100 000), than of White (93 per 100 000) individuals.
