 It is the part of the parietal cortex, posterior to the central sulcus and receives somatosensory information from the whole body. Like how the precentral gyrus has a map, this also contains a sensory map of the other side of the body. 

Postcentral Gyrus

One example of culture’s influence on brain function involves the use of the abacus in East Asian cultures. Giyoo Hatano, a Japanese developmental psychologist, hypothesized that abacus users relied on a mental representation of an abacus to solve arithmetic problems. In an fMRI study, Japanese participants, all of whom were familiar with the abacus, demonstrated increased activation in the parietal lobe. The magnitude of activation was positively correlated with the difficulty of the arithmetic problem. By contrast, individuals with no abacus experience tend to engage brain regions associated with linguistic processing when tasked with arithmetic problems (i.e. Broca’s area, Wernicke’s area). These findings support Hatano’s theory and illustrate the influence of culture on neuroplasticity.

Also known as just cortex, it is made of neuronal cell bodies, dendrites and axons. 
Due to different anatomical and functional differences, the major cortical regions have been divided into 4 categories:
- Frontal lobe
- Parietal lobe
- Temporal lobe

They have been named after the bones of the skull that overlie them. There are boundaries between these lobes known as central and lateral sulcus.

This is the large lateral cortical region of the cerebral hemisphere and is continuous with the parietal lobe

It is involved in a wide range of higher-order functions, including reasoning, motor control, emotion, language, impulse control, and cognitive tasks such as thinking, speech, and problem-solving. Key areas within the frontal lobe include Broca's area, the Prefrontal Cortex, and the Motor Cortex.
