Pavlov's Dogs: Conditioned Stimulus and Response
In the case of Pavlov's dogs, a tone was repeatedly paired with meat powder. The previously neutral tone became a conditioned stimulus (CS) when the dogs learned to associate it with being fed. The dogs' salivation to the tone alone, in anticipation of food, is the conditioned response (CR).
