Physical Health Effects of Lead Exposure in Children and Adults

Lead exposure can damage the brain and nervous system. In children, its physical and neurodevelopmental effects can include slowed growth, developmental delays, learning and behavior problems, and hearing and speech difficulties. In adults, effects can include increased blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems, kidney damage, and reproductive problems. Some effects may be severe and lasting.
