An informal interview session with professional writers revealed that they rarely use mobile devices for writing, but would benefit from a micro-editing took to copy-edit text from their phones.
A survey was then conducted to understand how people currently write and to learn what editing tasks would be useful to implement in a mobile micro-editing tool.
The survey revealed that very few participants wrote or edited documents while mobile using the mobile version of Microsoft Word, and only 10 people felt that it would be easy to edit a document from their mobile devices.
Most people who edited documents using the mobile Microsoft Word app were in the final stages of editing their document.
Overall, responses from the survey suggest that a mobile system that supports simple editing tasks that are often ignored in a larger document could be a useful complement to existing editing practices.
