Short Answer

Power Dynamics and Surplus Distribution

Consider a situation between a landowner and a tenant farmer. Initially, the landowner can use coercion to claim a large portion of the harvest. Later, a new law is passed that protects the tenant from force and grants them the right to refuse to work for the landowner and still survive (though at a very basic level). The landowner retains the exclusive power to make a single, final, 'take-it-or-leave-it' rent offer. Explain why the tenant is likely to end up with a larger share of the harvest after the law is passed, even though the landowner still makes the final offer.
