Prejudice common enough in a group that its consequences take place on a more or less uniform societal level. Typically these views are informed by a society's culture.

Societal Prejudice 

The tendency toward prejudice can be reduced through education, contact, interactions, and building relationships with members of different cultural groups. Even imagining positive social interactions with someone from a different group can increase positive attitudes and traits associated with the other group, while reducing anxiety associated with inter-group interactions.

Reducing Prejudice through Inter-group Interactions

An example of prejudice is having a negative attitude toward people who were not born in the same country. Although the prejudiced individual does not know all foreigners personally, they hold a dislike for them solely based on their status as foreigners.

Example of Prejudice: Negative Attitudes toward Foreigners

A preconceived notion, often negative, held by an individual or group against another individual or group. Typically prejudice is held against a group due to one or more immutable characteristics, activities, or beliefs that characterize that group.
