Price Volatility in the Kerala Fish Market (Pre-1997)

The fish market in Kerala before 1997 experienced extreme price swings. While most fishermen received low prices because of frequent local oversupply, a few who arrived at a port when demand was greater than supply could command exceptionally high prices for their catch.
