Pros of Family Inclusion in Anorexia Nervosa Treatment: Reports from Patients and Caregivers

Parents and caregivers report that FBT provided structure that helped them to care for their loved ones by making use of their existing strengths and resources. Likewise, patients report that FBT's parental involvement was beneficial to their recovery efforts. Caregivers rated NMCC as of high-quality, easy to understand, and were highly likely to recommend the treatment to others. Patients similarly reported positive experiences with learning new skills, reductions in anxiety, and increases in confidence and hope from caregiver involvement, and both patients and caregivers showed small improvements in well-being. Likewise, familial involvement helps to negate negative effects of long-term separation that may arise in certain treatment approaches.
