Struggles with Psychopathic Interventions

Cognitive-behavioral, eclectic, and psychodynamic therapy methods and specific psychotherapy programs have reduced psychopathic tendencies, such as decreased lying, manipulation, and increased empathy, as well as improved social relationships. 

Effective Psychotherapy Treatments for Psychopathy

Many used to believe that psychopathy was untreatable because as of about 2011, there hadn't been any successful treatment methods. One possible reason for this belief is that for psychotherapy to work, the patient must be willing and eager to change. However, psychopaths don’t see any issues with their personality, in fact, they see themselves as superior and tend to resent others (including therapists). Since then, successful methods have had encouraging results. For example, the Caldwell decompression therapy for juveniles. Hence, treatment should be encouraged.

Initial judgments about treating psychopathy

Beliefs that psychopathic individuals are immune or too challenging to treat continue to spread pessimistic views on the effectiveness of treatments for psychopathy. However, there is little scientific basis for this belief, and effective psychotherapy treatments for psychopathic individuals exist.

Similar to sociopathy, this condition is a lack of empathy and understanding of others. Emotions may not be experienced much at all in these individuals. However, the emphasis relies more on manipulative behavior. True social connections may not be possible, only feigned. Though manipulative and unempathetic, these individuals can be seen as charming to others and capable of maintaining a relatively normal life. Unlike the sociopath, they tend to be more risk-averse and caring about themselves.
