Quality of Short-Term and Long-Term Memory in Relation to Synaptic Connections

Short-term memory is much more unstable than its long-term counterpart, as it is more likely to be affected by outside interference. The nature of how these kinds of memory interact with synaptic connections may affect their strength. Since short-term memory does not create new synaptic connections the way long-term memory does, it is weaker.
