Pre college students who intended on joining a fraternity demonstrated different personality traits and alcohol use behaviors than those who intended not to join a fraternity. There was an increased amount of alcohol consumption for pre college students, who intended on joining Greek Life

Selection

Once in a fraternity organization, members show an increased amount of alcohol use than those who are not involved in Greek Life. This is supported by the environment of social organizations, where members living in the organizations' house was subject to an increased rate of drinking behavior.

Socialization

Does the environment surrounding the greek affiliation cause a member to consume more alcohol or do individuals with alcohol abuse behaviors choose greek environments?

Those involved with sororities or fraternities are more likely to engage with binge drinking in college. Moreover, according to a survey in 2018 by the University of Michigan, individuals in Greek Life are more likely to later on develop symptoms of AUD (Alcoholic Use Disorder).
