A senior UX interaction designer in the energy industry described an institutional knowledge barrier: subject-matter experts with more than ten years of experience may forget how long their expertise took to develop. Incoming UX practitioners consequently need substantial time to understand both the business and users' goals and motivations before they can improve the user experience. This account illustrates how unequal domain tenure can hinder onboarding and collaboration.
